SECANTS will be a cross-disciplinary research centre dedicated to the application of symmetry principles to engineering and science. As symmetry underlies nature, science and mathematics, many problems can be solved and many issues resolved by the application of principles based on symmetry. The underlying mathematics is group theory, which has not traditionally been associated with engineering, although it has had significant application in science. General methodologies and techniques will be developed computationally and applied in a very wide variety of engineering and scientific areas.
